In Honor of Bobby's birthday....

Ever since I saw it when it first aired, I've been searching for the Saturday Night Live performance of 'Saint Of Circumstance,' which I believe to be the ultimate example of the Dead at their 'tightest.' I have managed to get a (bad) recording of the 'Alabama Getaway' from that show, but not the 'Saint.'

Anyone got any links? :)

Wasn't that the episode where Bobby wore the pink rabbit ears or was that a different season?

I think that was their first SNL appearance (on Easter weekend) They played "I Need A Miracle" and "Casey Jones."

Yeah, me too. I'm so psyched to follow those links. I've been searching this for years. Being a "Go to Heaven-head", whose first show is 3-12-81, seeing them on SNL the spring of 80 was a primordial experience. Needless to say, I thought Bobby always wore rabbit ears. Well, maybe I wasn't that naive. I got the spirit of the GD during the Saint, (which I did not know), when Billy tried to flip his stick and dropped it. I thought that was cool and that "going for it and not quite making it" aspect of the GD informed my appreciation of them from then on.

Also, I have to admit, having basically Skeletons at that point, I was wondering where the heck the Mexican guy was. I assumed he had left the band by then. I guess I was pretty naive as a freshman in high school who thought Casey Jones was a Kinks song.

and Lorne Michaels was a putz to resist the Dead as being not hip enough for the show. Being that a couple of their main writers ( Frankin and Davis ) lobbied so hard to get them on and as if they didn't totally fit in with the fellow coke head cast.

It looks to me like it can be downloaded here, but maybe I'm missing something (didn't try it). It would be the whole episode of SNL.
